Ashley Mitchell, 29, hacked into Zynga’s computer system and stole 400 billion virtual chips to sell for real money. He has been sentenced to two years in prison for fraud. At face value the Facebook Poker chips were worth an estimated $12 million.

Mitchell used fake Facebook accounts to sell the stolen chips for real money, but at a fraction of the real value. Before being caught he had sold one third of his chips for around € 75,000.

The reason given for Mitchell’s actions was his online gambling addiction that was costing him up to € 1,300 every day.
